Due to colony collapse disorder (pesticides), drought, parasitic mites, monoculture, and the destruction of habitats, the bee population is steadily declining. Regenerative Beekeeping, developed by Patricia Indries, is one of the least invasive methods of beekeeping. It's goal is to increase the healthy honey bee population to support these vital pollinators to pollinate our fruits and vegetables. Tending to bees provides holistic integration of the natural world and individual health. Bee products are used to treat many health ailments including inflammation and bacterial infections. Working with bees also supports psychological well-being. The active meditation necessary when inside a humming hive can be soothing to the nervous system and participating in the health of our ecosystems provides a sense of efficacy and ease. "Environmental restoration work can spontaneously engender deep and lasting changes in people, including a sense of dignity and belonging, a tolerance for diversity, and a sustainable ecological sensibility. This art and science of helping the web of life in a particular place heal and renew itself can serve as a mirror and an impetus for individual and community renewal." - Elan Shapiro |
